Model IFC Fire Insulated Curtain

GLIDEROL Fire rated and insulated curtains are designed for use as a fire barrier that requires fire insulation capabilities as well. It is usually held in an open position during normal times and automatically drops to form a fire barrier in the event of a fire.

We offer two models:-

The GLIDEROL fire rated and insulated curtain was tested to SS 489:2001 and achieved fire integrity of 270 minutes and fire insulation of 225 minutes. It essentially comprise of two walls of fabric curtain that are rolled up onto two separate barrels, but driven by one motor operator. Each wall of curtain travels up and down in their respective guide channels that are set apart to form an insulating air-gap of 300mm between the two curtains.

Technical Data

Drum Assembly

The barrel assembly consists of an extremely rigid steel tube sheathed over a pair of drive shaft assemblies fitted to heavy duty bearing sets and supported at both ends by steel head plates. The drive shaft is a solid polished-steel round bar incorporating key ways to accept the drive sprocket. Corresponding to the size of the shutter, the head plates are either 6mm or 8mm thick with shafts of either 38mm or 50mm diameter.

Door Curtain

Material

The door curtain is made up of an inner and outer skin of silica fabric with an infill of high purity ceramic fiber insulation material. Overall thickness of each sewn-up fabric is approx 18mm.

Wind-lock Clips

Both edges of the door curtain are fitted with wind-lock clips to retain the curtains within the guide rails should the curtains deflect under wind or heat pressure.

Bottom Rail

The bottom rail is an inverted 'T' formed by 2 lengths of 50 x 50 x 3mm thick steel angle iron secured back-to-back through the bottom of the curtains.

Door Guides

Roll-formed galvanized steel guide channel of overall size 150mm x 80mm x 1.5mm thk. The channels are secured or welded to a continuous length of wall angle sized 75mm x 75mm x 3mm thk, spanning the entire height of the shutter and bolted to the walls of the door opening.

Door Operation

Motor Drive

The drive unit consists of a suitably-sized linear drive motor operator mounted parallel to and behind the door roll. It has an integrated gearbox and a chain-operated sheave wheel for manual operation in case of power failure. The control box is lockable, housing a set of push buttons for Up', 'Down' and 'Stop' operations. The door operation shall automatically stop at the desired upper and lower limits via adjustable limit switches.

For safety reasons, the 'DOWN' button shall require the operator to push and hold when closing the shutter. This is to ensure the closing operation is being supervised. Upon sighting an obstruction, the operator will automatically release the push button by reflex. This will instantly stop the downward travel of the shutter and prevent accidents.

Power supply shall be either Single Phase 230V x 15amp or 3 Phase 415V x 20amp, depending on the size of the shutter.

Automatic Closing

Fire shutters are required to close automatically in the event of fire under any circumstance. To ensure this function, it is equipped with sensing devices that will automatically trigger its closing.

Automatic closing by Fusible Link

For local detection, the shutter is equipped with a fusible link to ensure automatic closing whenever it senses a temperature-rise in the vicinity of the shutter that could result from a fire. One end of the link is fitted to a spring-loaded actuator that is attached to the brake releaser of the motor operator.

When activated, the link will break, releasing the actuator which in turn activates the brake releaser. This action will cause the door curtain to free fall by gravity acting on the curtain weight. At the same time, a mechanical Controlled Descent Governor built into the motor operator will kick in. This device will check the speed at which the door curtain descends, preventing it from slamming unto the floor. Most importantly, it allows pedestrians sufficient time to avoid the falling door curtain.

The fusible link is rated at 74°C, procured from a UL-listed specialist manufacturer, and with the rating and listing clearly marked on the link.

Automatic closing by Fire Alarm Panel

Where specified for general detection, the shutter is also fitted with an additional solenoid powered Automatic Descent device (ADD) that is wired to the Fire Alarm Panel. This device is installed adjacent to the Brake Releaser of the shutter motor such that its actuator arm will release the brake when extended. Whenever the Fire Alarm is activated, it will send an electrical pulse signal from its batteries to the ADD. This signal will activate the solenoid switch, releasing the spring-loaded actuator which in turn releases the motor brake. The door curtain will then close by gravity, similar to the process for the fusible link as described above.

The electrical signal is to be provided by the Fire Alarm System Specialist via a pair of wires running from the Fire Alarm Panel to the location of the shutter motor. Only a 24VDC 400ma electric pulse signal is needed.

In the event of activation by a False Alarm, it must be possible to re-open the shutter quickly and easily, without the need for special tools and ladders. As such, the ADD is equipped with an automatic re-set feature. By simply pressing the 'UP' button momentarily, the ADD will reset itself and the shutter will automatically proceed to open fully without requiring any further action.. It must be noted that the Fire Alarm System must first be reset in order for this function to work.

Important Note: The Fusible Link and the ADD shall be capable of functioning independently of each other, and even during power failure.
